Summer Challenge: 15U Title Game Recap
The PrepHoops Chicago Summer Challenge concluded on Sunday afternoon at Joy of the Game in Deerfield. The 15U championship game was an absolute gem between a pair of Illinois teams. Meanstreets 14U and Breakaway 15U hooked up in the title game.
It was definitely a game of contrasting styles. Meanstreets is first of all a year younger along with being super athletic and has plus size for position at every level on the floor. They have multiple potential five-star prospects down the line. Breakaway is a gritty 15U squad that plays tremendously well as a team getting huge wins throughout the tournament with different players stepping up throughout their run through the bracket.
Breakaway got out early and made it known that they were here to play! The thing that they did best was spacing the floor where they could use their passing and shooting to overcome Meanstreets length inside. The Breakaway group was absolutely fearless hitting big shots all game long from John Digenan and Sam Hoiberg.
Meanstreets seemed to have an answer every time Breakaway got on a roll. Jaylen Drane attacked downhill getting to the rim. Their twin towers inside AJ Casey and Jalen Washington got on the glass for put backs and scored inside.
Late in the contest Breakaway pulled away behind the shooting of Hoiberg as he drilled a pair of monster threes to essentially put the game away. He finished with 15 points. Digenan had 13 points. Meanstreets was led by Jaylen Drane with 10 points and Jalen Washington with 9 points.
Two great squads with very bright futures!
