Standouts: Best of The South (Day 4)
The final day of the HoopSeen Best of the South was in full force at Lake Point Champions Center wrapped up on Sunday afternoon.
Here is a look at the standouts.
ICYMI:
Hunter Cattoor (Bishop Moore/Team MOAM)
Over the past two weeks in Atlanta, coaches have been lining up to watch Hunter Cattoor. The 6’3″ 2019 Bishop Moore guard is a protector of the ball and a guy who knows how to use his entire repertoire of passes. Cattoor is a gifted athlete who can shoot at a high clip. His quick bounce passes were a huge asset to his Team MOAM group that won the 17U gray bracket.
LJ Thomas (Georgia Columbia/Georgia Stars)
It had been a while since I’ve seen LJ Thomas hoop. The former Brooks DeBartolo guard is now at Georgia Columbia where he’s maturing further. A gifted ballhandler since his freshman year, Thomas has good instincts and shot selection. He was pacing the floor and knocking down jumpers and passing with ease with the talented 15U Georgia Stars unit.
Darin Green Jr. (Wharton/Team Parsons)
Getting better and better. That is the motto that Darin Green Jr. lives by and it certainly shows just in the last month. Leaner but stronger, he’s hurting defenses with his quick dribbling, stepbacks, spins and entire improved attacks at the rim. The 6’5″ 2019 Wharton guard can always fall back on his jumper, which is polished.
Michael Eads (Edgewater/Team Parsons)
Whether Michael Eads is scoring or not, he’s making a meaningful impact. A high IQ point guard, Eads gets it done in transition and he loves driving to the basket. The 6’5″ guard is a handful defensively and his ability to strike from deep and/or kick it out to his teammates, makes him a tough cover. He was feeling it today.
Jordan Howard (McArthur/SOH Elite)
It had been a solid week for 2020 McArthur forward Jordan Howard (not to be confused with NFL running back Jordan Howard). On Sunday, he was at his best when his team needed him the most. Although SOH Elite came up short, the 6’4″ 2020 forward was active on the glass, carving out openings inside and gave his all on cuts to the hoop.
Frank Williams (Jefferson/Henson Select)
On a very young but athletic Henson Select team, Frank Williams proved to be a solid contributor. The 6’1” 2021 Jefferson forward was finishing at the rim off inside feeds and pushed it often in transition. He was the to-go guy when his teammates looked up the court. Williams will have a key role for the Dragons this fall.
