Standouts: AAU Super Showcase (Day 2)
The always busy ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex was filled with high school basketball at the AAU Super Showcase on Thursday.
Here is a look at the best performances I saw.
Darius Johnson (Virginia Episcopal/Parsons)
Wherever Darius Johnson has played this summer, he’s performed at a high level. During the UCF team camp, he ran with E1T1. Now, the 6’0″ 2021 Episcopal guard is playing with Team Parsons 15U. He was routinely getting inside for floaters and lay-ins on the day. Johnson is a dominant offensive trendsetter.
Ibrahima Diallo (Victory Rock/Florida Sons)
Ibrahima Diallo can really pace the floor with his length and size. The 7’0″ 2019 center is a strong core inside guy who battles for boards, putbacks and blocks. Diallo is a true big at Victory Rock and he’s matured in each game I’ve seen him play. He’s certainly scrappy down low.
Jeremiah Bannister (First Academy/Team MOAM)
A noticeably muscular forward, Jeremiah Bannister has a chance to develop. The 6’5″ 2021 First Academy forward is a battler on the boards and a player who does all the dirty work inside for his team. Bannister found good areas near the cup often.
Brody Boyer (Bayside/First Coast Elite)
Hard nosed and vocal, 2019 Bayside guard Brody Boyer plays the game with a purpose. Whether he’s attacking or dishing the ball out, the 6’3″ guard can make life easier for everyone around him. Boyer attacks often and doesn’t shy away from contact.
Max Fiedler (Melbourne/Team MOAM)
It was a fine night for 2019 Melbourne forward Max Fiedler. The 6’9″ big man continues to grab boards, clean up his own misses and create openings for himself in the paint. Fiedler is an old school center who thrives due to his true fundamental play.
Kanye Jones (First Academy/Team Knight)
At First Academy, it looks like there is yet another athlete ready to breakout. 6’3″ 2021 guard Kanye Jones is a confident young shooter who is a leader in transition and a steady passer. Jones is speedy down the floor and in sets and he’s an awfully tough cover right now.
