Recruiting Report: Travion McCray
Our first time getting a chance to see him play came a few years back with his AAU team, however with his recent transfer to Village Christian , we got the chance to see him more often. The first time that we got to see him in Village Christian open gym session, he showed a bit of everything that he could do. Scoring wise he can fill it up in a hurry, he has nice lateral quickness which helps him to be able to defend other quick guards at a nice rate. His upper body strength is what helps him to be able to battle inside with bigs to pull down rebounds on the offensive and defensive end of the court.
One game in particular that we saw this was during their matchup with eventual 1A State Champion Trinity Christian. Travion went for 30 points and turned the heads of just about everybody that was in attendance that day, he can shoot the deep ball, get into the paint and finish above the rim. One attribute that we really liked about him from day one is his toughness, he is always ready to go to war with his team and doesn’t back down from any challenge. Just recently he helped to lead his team to the D1 AAU National Championship, which only shows another attribute that we like about Travion and that’s his desire and ability to win games.
This spring and summer he has played with Team Loaded NC and has shown to colleges on the D1 level that he is a player that they will want to have in their program. He has put together quite a few good games with impressive numbers and even some plays that have been played and replayed on numerous highlight tapes. Campbell University and USC Upstate have already offered while other programs at the D1 level has shown some interest. With his work ethic and upside, we only expect him to get better and put together some more performances that will grab the attention of college coaches.
