Recruiting Report: Matthew Hurt (2019)
Matthew Hurt is the second rated Prep Hoops player in the nation and with Coach K, Bill Self, John Calipari, and Roy Williams fighting each other for elbow room at his games, it’s hard to argue against that.
So far this weekend in Los Angeles, Matthew Hurt has won a game with a three dribble, three-quarters court attack kiss off the glass game winner. Hurt scored 15 in that game and then scorched the OSA Crusaders with three treys and 8 of 11 shooting for 20 points in about 20 minutes. It’s all apart of the legacy that Matt has built as a D1 Minnesota basketball player on the Adidas stage.
A new stage for Matthew was the USA Basketball 18 and Under team that won gold in Canada. Matthew’s stats showed he was one of the most efficient players in the entire event. More importantly it was a great experience.
“Those two weeks were probably the best two weeks of my life. Getting to know all of the guys was great. We bonded a lot off the court, and the coaching staff was great. Overall it was a great experience.”
After talking about USA Basketball, Hurt went through each of the teams and coaches strongly recruiting him.
Duke: “We have a pretty good relationship. (Coach K) comes and watches a lot of my games, and him being in New York means a lot. Obviously they have a great program and it is a school I am interested in for sure.”
Kansas. “Coach Self is a Hall of Fame coach for sure. He knows a lot about the game that players like myself in high school do not. I learned a lot in those two weeks from him about what we have to do in college, so it is great with Kansas.”
Kentucky. “They develop a lot of guys. They have put a lot of guys into the NBA. I think they do right by their players and I think it is a program that I could fit in well at.”
Indiana. “Race (Thompson) went to school last year and was a little banged up, but the strength program got him right. I saw him recently and he is a lot stronger than he was last year. He is telling me, and the coaches are telling me, to come to Indiana and shock the world and win a national title.”
Minnesota. “I have been up to Minnesota a lot because of my brother. He has told me about what college life is and how it is great up at Minnesota. He has had a great two years so far and I am looking forward to seeing how he progresses and how Minnesota does this year.”
North Carolina. “It feels great to hear from them. Carolina is a great program and they won a national championship a couple of years ago. They always win and that is the most important thing to me. I have won at every level and they do it at a high rate, so it is a really intriguing school.”
Memphis. “I know (Mike Miller) had a great career at Florid and he is recruiting me really hard. Between Mike and Penny Hardaway they have a great coaching staff and I have a good relationship with them.”
