Recruiting Report: James Flicek (2019)
Spring/summer 2018 has been kind to many a rising senior on the hardwood so far. One of the prospects constantly catching the eye of NHR staff is Princeton/Comets DLR point guard James Flicek.
The crafty floor general has been dubbed “Little Mac” and “The Wizard” thanks to his flashy playmaking and shooting ability, most notably seen at the Great Plains Alliance in June, the Prep Hoops Senior Showcase and during a nice run at the D1 Summer Classic this past weekend. Comets DLR will cap off their season at the Bigfoot Hoops Classic in Las Vegas starting Wednesday. The Comets are 19-23 having competed in three NY2LA events and the best tournaments in the Midwest area.
“Some of my favorite moments from this AAU season have been competing with the best teams in the state and out of state,” James said.
Grassroots wasn’t the only venue for Flicek to showcase himself this summer; the Princeton Tigers were a no-brainer invite to the Breakdown Summer State Tournament and they pulled off an impressive three-game string for a championship. Princeton was 20-8 in 2017-18 and exceeded expectations with a team full of sophomores and juniors so pairing that with a great summer performance is a great case for a top ranking in Class AAA.
With big man and DLR teammate Jon Stimmler anchoring the paint, sharpshooter Adam Williams roaming the perimeter and Reilly O’Neill transferring in to man another wing, Flicek will have weapons all over to distribute to while possibly upping his scoring numbers. Expectations are high for the Tigers across the board.
“We are going to be a very hard team to keep up with because of the pace we play and the talent we have. We return everyone aside from one starter from last year and we’re adding another player that should help us out a lot,” James said. “My expectations are to be in the state tournament and make as much noise as possible.”
James is a surefire stock raiser in the 2019 class and is continuing to improve his skills into his senior season.
“I think my shooting had improved a lot this AAU season, and just still working on everything to become a complete player.”
The excitement surrounding Flicek’s play this grassroots year is garnering attention from college programs at multiple levels in the area as well.
“I have been in contact with Jamestown, Northwestern, Bemdji State, Northland, Hamline, and Sioux Falls,” he said.
Be on the lookout for Princeton as they will be a preseason top five team in AAA and the section 7 favorite. “Little Mac” and company are sure to turn heads!
