Recruiting Report: Christian Kuntz (2019)
The ECI Prospects were one of the best teams in the Dakotas over the course of the summer, winning their host tournament along with the Great Plains Alliance and advancing deep into the NY2LA Summer Jam. They did so because of great balance and contributions from a number of players throughout the roster.
One of the guys who finished the year strong is West Fargo Sheyenne guard Christian Kuntz.
Kuntz, a 6-foot-1 combo guard, showcased his ability both on and off the ball on the offensive end and his defensive toughness consistently throughout the summer. He said playing against top flight competition helped him grow as a player.
“It’s a great mix up for me,” said Kuntz. “I get a chance to play with guys who can catch any pass I throw near them and finish. I can make plays with the ball in my hands or without the ball and showcase areas of my game that I don’t always show. Just playmaking, getting guys to the right spots where they can make plays.”
Kuntz recently picked up a scholarship offer from Mayville State and has drawn interest from a number of local schools.
“I’m talking to Valley City quite a bit and I’m planning on going to an elite camp in Bemidji this week,” said Kuntz. “I’ve been talking a lot with [Bemidji assistant] Michael Iseman from Jamestown who just went to Bemidji. I like a lot of the Sioux Falls schools: USF and Augustana. Touring Augustana and have an elite camp at USF that weekend too. I’m not too set on anything right now. I’ll take my time and make sure I know where I want to be.”
Next up for Kuntz is helping West Fargo Sheyenne hopefully enjoy a winter season similar to the one it enjoyed last year when the Mustangs advanced to the state title game before losing to Bismarck Century.
“Just getting into the gym by myself now and try to improve my game,” said Kuntz. “I want to build the strength parts of my game. I’ve been on a listing program with Sanford Power and they’ve been helping me a lot.”
