Recruiting Report: Christian Braun (2019)
July has been the breakthrough that 6-foot-4 shooting guard Christian Braun has been waiting for. The 2019 shooter ended May in a big way and has been impressing ever since.
In Virginia, Braun made 47 percent of his threes averaging 11 points and five boards in the four games that weekend. At that point Ole Miss was his lone high major offer. But in addition to showing off his shooting touch Christian gave the nation examples of why he’s a much better athlete than most knew. Improving his ability going at the rim and defending with energy has went along with his court IQ and skills.
From there came more strong Peach Jam performances for MoKan who pushed there way to the Peach Jam Final Four.
- Braun had 11 points, four boards, three assists, and three steals against Team United
- 18 points and six boards against Drive Nation
- 14 more points versus Houston Hoops
- A double-double of 11 and 10 against the #1 team in the nation Team Takeover
- 19 points, 5 boards versus New York Lightning
Christian’s Peach Jam run was highlighted by confident play and dribble separation into jumpers against some of the top teams in North Augusta. Calls then came in: Georgia, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Purdue, and others. Then the offers. DePaul, Kansas State, Wake Forest, Minnesota, Saint Louis, and Tulane.
The latest offer has come in the Twin Cities. Minnesota assistant coach Kyle Lindsted has been in contact with Braun since before he arrived at the University of Minnesota. Lindsted watched Braun at the Peach Jam, we expect that the Gopher staff saw Christian play at the KC Hardwood Classic, and an offer came in over the weekend.
“I have been talking to Coach Lindsted for a while now so it feels good to get an opportunity from them,” Christian told Prep Hoops. He has believed in me for a while now.”
Braun doesn’t know much about the Gopher program yet but he’s definitely interested in looking into what Minnesota is about.
“(I’m) not too familiar with Coach Richard Pitino because I have only spoke to him once and have never been on campus but I have a great relationship with Lindsted.”
Teams are aggressively coming after Braun for official visits in the months that follow July.
“I don’t have visits sit yet but I am hearing a lot from the schools that have offered,” Braun explained. “And of the schools who haven’t offered I have been talking to Oklahoma, Texas Tech, and Purdue.”
Christian explained when he would like to have his decision made.
“I would like to have it done before my senior season,” Braun said. “I don’t know how that’s going to play out with visits and stuff like that, but I’m going to take my time and make sure I get to the right spot, but I would like to get it done sooner rather than later.”
