Recruiting Recap: Cobie Barnes (2019)
The July live periods are over and we are looking at some of the biggest movers and shakers of the month and maybe the one that solidified his standing the most was that of Floyd Central (IN) forward Cobie Barnes.
The 6’7 forward had been in kind of a stalemate with his initial offer list of Evansville, IUPUI, Indiana State, and Miami (OH). But his play over the last two weekends really shined through with college coaches and he was able to bring a little more consistency and at a higher level.
The last three offers Barnes picked up were from Belmont, Lehigh, and IPFW. Belmont has done very well in Indiana, recruiting the state for the Ohio Valley Conference. Lehigh and IPFW have also been strong but are both very tight with their scholarships.
Barnes played this summer with Indiana Elite 2019 and while there were a couple injuries to his teammates, it looked like some extra minutes and tougher competition kind of helped him to turn the corner a bit.
He’s a great small-ball four with his ability to play inside and out, shooting the ball from deep for a nice clip as well. He’s so big and strong inside that he can post up in the low or mid-post and has the ball handling and skill to make play after play around the rim.
Now, Cobie goes into the fall with a wide array of offers at the low and mid-major levels and some solid programs with long standing coaching staffs and NCAA Tournament experience. Look for things to speed up with visits this Fall and it wouldn’t surprise if their was a decision anytime between now and the high school season.
