Prospect Update: Zack Lasek (2020)
As his 16U summer begins to wind down, Highland, Riverside big-man Zack Lasek is starting to see his recruitment materialize.
The 6-foot-7 stretch-four is playing with Martin Brothers 16U this summer, and has two live period tourneys left to showcase his developing skill-set, and maybe pick up that first offer.
“My focus is on being able to be an outside threat (in addition to a post threat). And during the high school season, I was shooting a lot more from the outside and pretty efficient, and also I was driving to the basket a lot more,” said Lasek.
“And I’m really focusing on knocking down a mid-range shot more efficiently.”
As a sophomore at Highland, Riverside, Lasek was very good, going for 20.7 points per game and 9.4 rebounds. He made 20 3s last season, compared to just two his freshman year.
Next season, look for his numbers to continue and increase, and his leadership, too.
“I’m definitely going to be accepting a lot more of a leadership role, and lead my teammates. And hold everyone accountable, whether that’s in practice or in games,” said Lasek.
He’ll play in Milwaukee this weekend with Martin Brothers 16U at the Summer Jam. Next weekend they’ll be in Kansas City at the Jayhawk UA Summer Finale.
Lasek is hoping to stay consistent throughout the tourneys, and keep his momentum going after a strong outing in Milwaukee last weekend.
“The spring went pretty well. My play wasn’t as consistent as I would have liked. I had tournaments where I played pretty well and then tourneys where I just couldn’t really put a good game together for some reason,” said Lasek.
“I played well in New York right after the June break and ever since then I’ve been playing pretty well, and last weekend was my best weekend by far. And hopefully I can carry that through the next two weekends.”
As for recruitment, Lasek reports Miami of Ohio, Milwaukee-Wisconsin, Nebraska-Omaha and Nebraska as schools that have been reaching out most.
“Those are really the four that have been the most interested,” said Lasek, who also mentioned UM-KC as an interested school.
His focus is not necessarily on collecting as many offers as he can this summer, but he’s OK with seeing a gradual gain in his recruitment.
“I’m not really trying to get offers over the next month or so, although it’d be really nice to. I’m just wanting to play well in front of coaches that are already interested, and maybe spark some interest from other schools,” said Lasek. “And give the ones who are interested in me already, a reason to pull the trigger and offer.”
