Prospect Spotlight: TJ Vesey (2019)
Davenport North has a number of guys that have impressed over the course of July, none have been more impressive than rising senior guard TJ Vesey.
A 6-foot slasher, Vesey is a big-bodied wing with a knack for finishing through contact and setting teammates up for success. He was outstanding all last weekend at the Hardwood Classic in Lawrence, Kansas.
“I’m really good at getting to the basket, I can hit the mid-range jumper. I’m able to kick it out to shooter in the corner, I’m very unselfish and like to get my teammates involved,” said Vesey.
Last season, with the Wildcats, Vesey played well. He averaged 10.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.
This season, as a senior, he’ll have to be the main man.
“I’m going to have to be the man, I’ll need to do a lot more scoring and be a lot more aggressive than I was last year,” said Vesey.
It’s been Showtime Hoopers Black that Vesey has been playing with the spring and summer, one of the state’s best AAU teams.
“I enjoy playing with this group of guys, we don’t have much height, but we’re a very talented group,” he said. “We all can bring the ball up the court, we all can shoot, we all can run the floor,”
As for recruitment, the rising senior still has this weekend in Kansas City to earn some college interest; it’s the year’s final live period weekend.
Vesey has some D2 interest coming in right now, from all over the country.
“No offers yet, I’ve just had some schools get in contact with me; Virginia State, UC-San Diego, Wayne State, Minnesota State, Missouri Southern State,” said Vesey.
“I know my coach, Coco (Cofield), knows a lot of coaches. He has a lot of contacts. And I have sent my films out to different schools.”
He mentioned Wayne State and Missouri Southern State as schools that have been recruiting him the most.
“By the end of the summer, I’m hoping to receive at least one offer,” Vesey said. “That’s the goal.”
