Prospect Spotlight: Jalen Fisher (2019)
Some players put their talent on display over grassroots season. Jalen Fisher did just that, and he was impressive while doing so. The star 5’9” point guard from the class of 2019 made noise while suiting up for the Michigan Warriors. Fisher attends Ypsilanti Lincoln HIgh School where he averaged 11ppg, 2.7apg, 3.2spg, and 3.4rpg.
Fisher has an impressive skill set. He is exceptionally quick, making it hard for defenders to stay in front of him. Fisher is a solid ball handler who limits turnovers. He is a consumate team player who keeps his teammates engaged and makes the players around him better. Fisher is also dangerous from behind the three point line.
Jalen Fisher is always striving to improve. He was new to Lincoln High School last year after moving from Memphis, Tennessee. Fisher now feels more comfortable and is ready to take a more active leadership role. “As a senior, I will step up as an active and vocal leader of my team,” he said.
Fisher understands how big basketball can be and how important of role it can play in people’s lives. “My best moment was watching my teammate, Jesse Davis who battled cancer for the 4th time in his life, return to the game he loves to play,” said Fisher. He was so excited about his friend and teammates return that he scored 15 points in the first quarter of the game. “When he checked into the game, I was so proud to see my teammate and friend representing Lincoln on the basketball court. He is a very inspiring person.”
Fisher had a very impressive grassroots season. He appreciated the opportunity to show his skills at various elite camps. Being new to Michigan last season, many midwestern collegiate coaches had never seen him play. Fisher played well and made an impression on coaches that saw him play. In fact, he played so well that he gained interest from Division 2, Division 3, and NAIA schools.
Jalen Fisher has a lot to offer a college basketball program. He brings a fast and versatile player who can get to the basket. Fisher can also shoot from mid range and three point land. He is an excellent on ball defender. Fisher is a very coachable player who is constantly seeking ways to become a better player. He’s the type of basketball player that coaches enjoy working with.
Fisher is driven by goals. He is eyeing a trip to the Breslin Center with his Ypsilanti Lincoln team. Fisher wants a state championship but understands that conference, district, and regional championships come first. He hopes to fulfill his dream of receiving a full athletic scholarship to play basketball. “I’m well on my way and I believe my dream will come true,” Fisher said. In the future, he plans on graduating from college and having a successful career.
Jalen Fisher is a motivated athlete. He is on the path to success both on and off the court. It will be interesting and fun to watch his game continue to develop and see his recruitment pick up.
