Prospect Spotlight: Connor Murphy (2019)
A 6-foot-5 sharpshooter with an increasingly diverse skill-set, Connor Murphy is a guy that’s possible flying under the radar in Northern California.
The San Ramon rising senior currently has no offers, but still has his July ahead to turn some heads, and a senior season to showcase what he’s capable of.
“People tend to underestimate me, because they just think I’m a catch and shoot kind of guy, but I can drive it to the basket and I can get a stop defensively when my team needs me to,” said Murphy.
“If we’re down and my team needs a clutch 3 to put us back up, I can hit it. And with my high school team. I’m the facilitator, even though I’m the tallest guy, I’m the point guard most of the time.”
As a junior with the Wolves, Murphy was a key player. Next season, he’ll again be key, and his squad has been focused this spring on improving.
“We started off good last season, but during the playoffs we kind of crashed and burned. That’s why we’ve been working so hard this offseason, because, we don’t want a repeat of last year,” said Murphy. “We know what we can accomplish and we think we have a lot of potential to go far this year.”
Ahead of his senior season, Murphy will be spending the rest of his summer with Bay City Select 17U unit. He says they can do a lot of damage this July.
“In the spring we were just getting used to each other and it took us a little bit to mesh with each other and play to each other’s abilities. I think that we really have meshed well together, and this summer we know that everyone has a role on the team and a specific thing they can bring to the table,” said Murphy.
“I think we’re a dynamic team, we got a little bit of everything, and I think we’re going to turn a lot of heads this summer.”
With July comes the three live periods, and in addition to getting out with Bay City Select, Murphy is taking a proactive approach of his own to get seen by college coaches.
“I just started emailing all of my videos to coaches,” said Murphy. “I’ve been in a little bit of contact with the Cal State East Bay coach, I’ve talked to Colorado Christian, they’re coming to my games in July. Cal State San Marcos has reached out. And that’s about it so far.”
