Prospect Spotlight: Carson Bonine (2019)
Carson Bonine is a 6’2 guard that is continuing to gain confidence and a feel for his game. After starting at point guard in his first season on Varsity as a junior at Camas High School, Bonine had a strong spring for Iron Athletics Sixers 17U and took a big step in summer ball with Camas.
In 23 games this June for Camas, Bonine averaged 11.2 points per game, 3.7 rebounds per game, and 3.0 assists per game. He also shot 41% from the three-point line. After being primarily known for his defense during his junior season, he asserted himself on the offensive end, leading the scoring and distributing attack. Additionally, his 68 assists to only 27 turnovers points to a potential increase in his playmaking abilities during the regular season. For the remainder of the offseason, one of his main goals is to increase his strength and quickness, in order to maintain his defensive tenacity and control in the paint against the toughest of opponents.
Entering his senior year, Bonine wants to make a name for himself and showcase his development. He looks forward to playing against the top opponents in the area, especially Skyview and Union, saying, “I [love] the competitiveness… it brings the best basketball player out of me.” Bonine hopes to create opportunities for himself to play at the college level and feels that he can be a guy that “loves to share the ball, get rebounds, and run the offense with little turnovers.” Watch for Carson Bonine to hound his opponent on one end and display increasing poise on the other in the 2018-2019 season.
