Prospect Intro: Jaden Franklin (2020)
Glasgow forward Jaden Franklin is a three sport star who is looking to impress coaches on the hardwood this July after spending his spring on the baseball diamond. Jaden described himself as “a versatile big man that loves to play around the basket. I can post-up, step out and hit the mid-range jumper and I’m not afraid to step behind the 3-point line. I pride myself on getting points in the paint and getting my hands on every rebound.” Franklin sees his strengths as a versatile big man but says that he needs to perfect his post moves to improve his overall game as a post player.
Glasgow had a great 2017-18 season and Franklin was a huge reason why. As part of a loaded sophomore class, Jaden said, “Last years high school season went really well. My team ended up going 22-9. I was very happy with my performances. I ended with 10 double-doubles. I Tallied 291 points and 228 rebounds and all 5 starters ended the season averaging double digit points.” Jaden will play July AAU with Kentucky Vision. He missed the spring AAU season due to his commitments as a baseball player for the Scotties. The 6’6 Junior said he is hoping to have a big month of July and “open a lot of eyes.”
Jaden claims “offers from a couple of schools” but didn’t name which schools have offered him. He told me, ” I am working very hard on my game and perfecting my craft to gain as many offers as possible to get the best experience.” Jaden is spending his down time working on ball handling and perimeter jump shot. If he can refine those aspects of his game, he can reach his stated 2018-19 goals of “averaging a double double the entire year and leading my team to a Regional Championship.” Being a three sport star makes it difficult to be a star in any of the three but Jaden Franklin has found a way to be a top player in everything he chooses to do. As Jaden moves on to the next level, he will only get better as he focuses on one sport at the college level. In the mean time he’s looking to get Glasgow to Rupp Arena next March.
