Prospect Intro: Daeshawn White (2020)
Junior wing Daeshawn White was already looking for a big 2018-19 season and now he will likely need to carry a larger burden with the transfer of Tahj Harding from Newport to Ohio. White is a self described “play maker whose strengths are scoring and creating open shots for my teammates. I have great court vision. My weaknesses are my athleticism and rebounding.” Are being a role player with the Wildcats a season ago, White sees a need for improvement in his Junior campaign, “I’m not okay with last seasons performance. I could have done better. I was lacking confidence and missed a lot of easy shots I normally would have made. We won our district title but lost in the first round of regionals. We should have been playing in the regional championship game.”
Daeshawn has spent his spring playing AAU with the state champion Kentucky Defenders. He says the season is going great and they have won many tournaments, including multiple games by 20+ points. White says that multiple schools have been contacting him to inquire about him as a college player. While he prepares for his Junior year, he’s learning the importance of staying in “attack mode” all game and to not let off the gas. “For my high school season I want to average a double double in points and assists and be the Defensive player of the year and help my team to win a state championship.” With the loss of Harding, Daeshawn is going to have ample opportunity to prove himself as a player and college prospect for the 9th region contenders. Look for White to be a big part of any success Newport enjoys this year.
