The Northern Exposure 16u squad celebrated their 10th anniversary this spring and summer. They are only in their 2nd year of competing in spring and summer events. Despite being a relatively new program in those terms, they certainly left their mark on the grassroots scene this year.
The Northern Exposure 16u program traveled around the Midwest playing high quality competition. They played events in Minneapolis, Indianapolis, Lansing, and Grand Rapids. Northern Exposure 16u just finished with a trip to the highly regarded Brawl for the Ball.
Northern Exposure 16u experienced a lot of success this grassroots season. They were over .500 in every event they played in. “Our kids learned to compete against the very best as we do not see the competition in Northern Michigan. We have a few I believe can play at the college level,” said Coach Hazelton.
Reece Hazelton
“We were led by 6’7″ wing Reece Hazelton (Glen Lake HS) who scored around 23 ppg. 10 rpg. Reece can score at all 3 levels. He can shoot from 25ft, drive to 10-15ft for pull up jumpers and has exceptional footwork in the post.” – Coach Hazelton
Reece Hazelton
Brandon Choiunard
“Brendan Choiunard (Traverse City St. Francis) was our 2nd leading scorer at 12pp. He is a great passer with superior floor vision and has range to 25 ft.” – Coach Hazelton
Blake Cassidy
“Blake Cassidy (Pellston) 10ppg has a great 3pt shot and had a great season. 6’3″ would make a great 2 guard for Division 2 or 3 program.” – Coach Hazelton
Taylor Bennet
“Taylor Bennet (Onekama) A great athlete who had some big game for us. Plays a lot bigger than his 6’2″ frame.” – Coach Hazelton
The future is bright for the Northern Exposure program. Specifically, the class of 2023 team looks ready to compete at a high level in the coming years. They are led by Wyatt Nausadis and Luke Hazelton.
