Nike Summer Championship: Top Guards
The backcourts at the Nike Summer Championship on Saturday were loaded with multiple prospects putting their best foot forward in front of multiple schools. Although several 2020 prospects made their marks, it was the Class of 2019 guards that made our list of top guards at the event. Here are our top guards from the Nike Summer Championships on Saturday.
Josh Corbin- 6’3 SG- Gahanna Lincoln (OH)/All Ohio Red
Corbin (PHO #5 2019) played aggressive on both ends of the floor on Saturday. Against Downtown’s Finest, Corbin was the front part of a 1-2-2 half-court trap AOR utilized in their win. This aggressiveness plus his tremendous athleticism made him a disruptive piece to the AOR defense. On the offensive end, we already know Corbin can score, but Saturday he had his assist hat on and showed off his great passing and even threw a few impressive no look passes.
Michael Bekelja- 6’0 SG- Solon (OH)/ TNBA Flash
Bekelja (PHO #45 2019) was an offensive weapon against both Chi Town Warriors and Miller Factory on Saturday. The Fairmont State signee lit up both teams with his 3 point shooting, especially against the very talented Miller Factory. He did the simple things all game and forced the defense to cover him tighter on the perimeter. In addition, he was not afraid to make an extra pass to set up a more open teammate.
Brandon Rush- 6’2 SG- Warrensville Heights (OH)/ TNBA Ohio
A long and lengthy guard, Rush (PHO #15 2019) impressed us in TNBA ‘s win over Ohio KOTC on Saturday. A scrappy guard, Rush didn’t force any shots and did a great job getting open teammates the ball. He excelled in transition and helped set a run-and-go tempo for TNBA early on.
Tanner Holden- 6’6 SG- Wheelersburg (OH)/All Ohio Red
Holden (PHO #11 2019) was one of the top performers on the entire day. Although listed as a SG, he made his mark on the glass as one of the top rebounders on the day. Defensively, he assisted AOR with their 1-2-2 trap that created trouble for Downtown’s Finest and even had an opportunity to throw down a tip back dunk, but his timing was slightly off.
Treohn Watkins- 5’11 PG- Columbus South (OH)/Miller Factory 2019
Watkins (PHO #93 2019) was just one of several talented guards part of this Miller Factory team. He has tremendous speed and looks to push the tempo on the offensive end. With a nice pullup jump shot in his arsenal, Watkins proved to be a high ceiling guard that likely impressed several of the colleges in attendance Saturday.
