Louisiana 2019 Rankings: Top Guards
*Disclaimer* This list doesn’t include the top 5 players for 2019, as we broke them down further HERE
Jahein Spencer 6’4 G/F Madison Prep/ Louisiana Elite
Spencer is a guard with great size is continuing to add skill to a college ready body. This has been a big summer so far for Spencer, both on his grassroots team and for his high school team. For high school, with the departure of 3 D1 players from last year’s squad, Spencer has stepped up in a leadership role and looked good as the main option. As far as grassroots, he has played a big role in Louisiana Elite’s success so far this season on the Under Armour circuit, and has picked up some big offers to Mississippi State and Georgetown along the way.
Jacoby Decker 5’9 G Bossier/ Louisiana Select Team Milsaps
The easiest way to describe Decker’s game is simply electric. He can absolutely get anywhere he wants to with the ball in his hands, and is capable of scoring on all three levels. He also has the athleticism to pair with his skills, as he is capable of throwing down some monster windmill dunks, despite his size. He has looked really good in both grassroots and summer league games, and Bossier might be the team to beat in Louisiana next season.
Norris Williams 6’1 G Archbishop Hannan/ Proskills
Sadly, Norris spent most of his high school regular season on the sidelines, with a separated shoulder, and when he did come back, he wasn’t at 100%. However, after this past weekend, there’s no arguing that he is at 100%. He had his best game of the summer in the Peach Jam for Pro Skills, going for 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists off the bench against Woodz Elite. Rumor has it his recruitment picked up after such a big game on such a big stage.
Dywan Griffin 6’1 G Landry Walker/ Louisiana Supreme
Griffin is a shifty, high IQ lead guard. He is the next D1 point guard to come out of Landry Walker, following in the footsteps of Lamar Peters and his cousin Tyree Griffin. He had a really big weekend this past weekend, and picked up a couple D1 offers from Southern Miss (where Tyree Griffin is) and Nicholls St. to go along with his prior offer to Coastal Carolina.
Tra’Michael Moton 6’1 G Woodlawn Shreve/ Louisiana Elite
Moton is a scoring combo guard that can score at all three levels on the basketball court. He is a good distributor, and put up a very impressive performance in a losing effort in the state championship in 4A, and is the biggest reason that the game was even as close as it was. He was able to pick up his first D1 offer a few weeks ago, coming from Grambling. It will be interesting to see how his role changes with Louisiana Elite 17u in July, after they pick up 4 star 2019 G Joe Cooper and 5 star 2020 F Jaemyn Brakefield from Mississippi.
