Live Period Stock Risers
The last three weeks of July were filled with great weather around the midwest. For players like Lorne Bowman, Wendell Green Jr, and others, their past three weeks have been filled with that and offers and interests from a lot of schools. This article highlights five players whose stock rose during the July live periods.
Wendell Green Jr. 5’10 Detroit Country Day 2020/Michigan Playmakers 17U- Green had a great summer with solid performances in front of John Belien, Tom Izzo, Matt Painter, and Archie Miller. The young guard does a great a great job at getting to the basket and using his body down low. Green has a nice jumper, but when he gets hot he can hit from almost anywhere on the floor. He is a great perimeter defender and has great court vision. Green is currently receiving interest from Michigan, Purdue, Duquesne, Xavier, and Butler just to name a few.
Justin Rukat 6’7 Novi Catholic Central 2019/Michigan Playmakers 17U- Rukat had a decent spring, but it was very evident that he was in the gym during the summer because he took a leap in to the July live periods. He showed that leap at the Grand Rapids Storm Brawl for the Ball. His shooting was lethal from deep. He also made a big impact on the boards and was a shot blocking machine. Rukat is also a genius in the classroom with a GPA of 4.0+ and an ACT of 30+. Coach/Director, Wendell Green calls him “Ivy League” due to his smarts and skills. Rukat is currently receiving interest from American, Colgate, Dominican, and Kalamazoo just to name a few.
Steve Pearson 6’4 Detroit Henry Ford 2020/Michigan Playmakers 17U- Pearson can flat out jump out the gym and that has been known since his middle school days. What is most impressive about how he plays is because he plays with a ton of tenacity. He hustles throughout the whole game and he is a great rebounder and a strong shot blocker. He rarely gets fatigued. He compliments Wendell Green Jr. very well as they created their own lob city. If he develops his jumper and ball handling he could easily play himself into a Division 1 scholarship very soon. Pearson is receiving interest from Northwood, Kentucky State, and Saginaw Valley State just to name a few.
Lorne Bowman 6’0 Orchard Lake St. Marys 2020/REACH 17U- Bowman has blown up this summer with REACH. Bowman does a great job at getting to the basket. He distributes the ball very well and he is a solid defender. He had a great performance at the NY2LA Next Level Invitational with 26 second half points with tons of coaches watching. After his strong summer he received an offer from Big Ten school Nebraska. He also holds offers from Buffalo and Toledo and he is receiving interest from Michigan, Michigan State, and Wisconsin.
Jamoni Jones 6’0 East Kentwood 2020/Greenwood Elite 16U- Jones is an all around great ball player. He has a strong jump shot and he is extremely quick. The 2020 guard uses his quickness to get to the basket and to create separation from his defenders. He is currently getting recruited by Duquesne, Bethune-Cookman, and Miami of Ohio just to name a few.
