JAYHAWK: Kansas’ Stock Riers (Point Guards)
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — The 2018 Jayhawk Summer Finale completed play on Sunday with a host of standout performances.
Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several of the premier players and performances from Kansas’ talent.
(G) 14 — Tamar Bates, 6’3, G, 2021, Piper, KC Run GMC 15U
Bates has a smooth left handed shooting stroke and is a consistent, knock down shooter from behind the arc. He has a long, rangy frame and is comfortable playing either guard spot as he showed he can handle the point guard duties, or run off the ball as well.
(PG) 12 — Tony Friends, 5’7, PG, 2020, Shawnee Mission East, NDa Gym 16U
Friends is a tough point guard with good quickness who showed the ability to handle the ball and make plays, He has good end-to-end speed in the open floor and can get all the way to the basket where he finished among the trees.
(PG) 1 — Kaleb Gaddis, 5’9, PG, 2021, Andover, NLHA 15U Perez (pictured)
Gaddis has a game that just grows on you. He’s not overly big or athletic, but is a smart, heady player with a high basketball IQ who just knows how to play the game. He can handle the ball and get a team into its offense, can shoot from the outside and is a crafty finisher around the basket. Gaddis also brings a cool, calm demeanor to the floor and is seemingly always under control.
(PG) 2 — Cooper Jackson, 5’10, PG, 2022, Westridge, Drive5 Power Elite 2022
Jackson is among the more impressive young guards we’ve seen to date in Kansas’ younger classes. He has terrific bounce and athleticism in his step and plays much bigger than hist listed 5’10 height as a result. He can score in a variety of ways, handles the ball exceptionally well and brings the kind of calm demeanor that you look for in a point guard.
