Jarod Schulze: Gaining NAIA/D2 Interest
Jarod Schulze Working Hard This Summer,
Impressive in Louisville This Past Weekend
Jarod Schulze (2019) is a legit 6’9, 240 pound post player from Minster High School. He averaged 12 points and 6 rebounds last season and he set the record for blocks in a season for his school and also the conference. He finished with 73 blocks, which averaged out to be around 4 blocks a game. Jarod missed a few games last year due to a minor injury.
Schulze is looking forward to his senior season and is putting in a lot of work this off-season to make sure his senior campaign will be memorable. Currently, he is playing AAU for Northwest Ohio Basketball Club and has gathered the attention of several college programs that include University of Northwestern Ohio, St. Francis IN, Findlay and also Urbana.
This past weekend in Louisville, Jarod had a solid performance including a 20 point (9-9 FG 2-2FT), 12 rebound, 7 block performance against Club1 Bond. Urbana head coach Nick Dials was interested in Schulze before this weekend but came away really impressed. Dials had concerns over Jarod’s lateral quickness and if he’d be able to guard quicker post players. Dials believes that Jarod showed college programs this past weekend that he’s a better defender than he was this past spring.
Schulze said, “I’ve been working really hard on my lateral quickness this off-season. I know for me to play at a high level, I’d have to be able to move my feet better on defense. I’m also working on my ball handling as well.”
Jarod runs the floor well for his size, works really hard for position and is willing to compete against any post player he may be assigned to guarding. He also recognized and made the right read when being doubled down on hitting a few guys for open shots.
When choosing a college Jarod wants to major in Agricultural Business but only 2 schools in Ohio offer this program (Wilmington Div. 3 and Univ. of Northwestern Ohio.) St. Francis has a business program that Jarod would have to do for 2 years and then he’d focus on a science component. Schulze said, “When choosing a college, I’d like to attend a school with small classes, coaches that I have a strong relationship with and a school that has good surroundings.”
He’s looking to make a decision on a college this fall. Division 2 colleges that are looking for a true post player should take a look at Jarod Schulze from Minster.
