Inspire Summer Splash standouts: Inspire Albert
The Inspire Courts varsity club team, under coach Albert Ramirez, went 1-1 in pool play at the Inspire courts Summer Splash Tournament, and put on a show for fans.
Here are four players that stood out for Inspire:
- Frank Garcia
Garcia, as he is known to do for this team, took over the ball handling duties, especially in crunch time. He was effective in getting to the paint in both first-day games, hitting layups and making baskets easier for teammates. He also was fierce on the defensive end, often guarding opponents’ best players because of his size and quickness. He hit a few open jumpers in the flow of the offense as well.
- Dajon Walker
He hustled all day long, usually the first one up and down both sides of the court. Whenever Inspire got a rebound on defense, he was always looking for the outlet pass, in an attempt to get into transition, where the team thrives. When Inspire pressed, he served as the second line, making several steals or causing errant passes.
- Dre’Quan Bryant
Bryant took over late in the second game on the offensive end, despite the close loss to PHX Rebs. He always attacked on the defensive end, heading the effective press that Inspire has played well this summer. He rebounded well to get second-chance points and hit a few key jumpers from the perimeter. His best moment came when Inspire was down 15 points late in the second half. He scored 10 straight on two three-pointers and two layups in four possessions, bringing a despondent team back into the game.
- John McGowan
One of the few players who played primarily on the post, McGowen made his presence felt down low with rebounds and interior defense, collecting boards on both ends and a few blocks.
