Hoops for the Homeless tournament: top playmakers
While many Arizona basketball clubs are out of town for national tournaments, the Hoops for the Homeless tournament in Avondale still showcased plenty of local talent.
Here are some of the tournament’s top playmakers:
Lemaica Westbrook: PHX Rebs
Westbrook always threatens to get to the basket and use his size as a guard to finish lay ups. However, his passing ability and dribbling skills are what make him such a dynamic player. To top it off, he loves to see his teammates succeed, and genuinely celebrates their scores as much as he would his own.
Justin Coskey: Phoenix Soldiers
Coskey has great size for a high school guard, with long arms and quick-moving legs. His height allows him to see over opposing guards at the perimeter and make precision passes to cutting teammates. He also posts up on occasion over smaller defenders, and is pretty effective at picking the right passes to shooters behind the arc.
Jason Collier: New Wave
A quick guard on a relatively-small team, Collier does not have the luxury of many big men to dump the ball to down low. However, his dribbling skills and willingness to get the ball into the hands of shooters was very influential in the first-round win to grab the second seed in the knockout round.
Donte Coleman: Another Level
More than any other player in the tournament, Coleman used his size to make great passes to perimeter players from the post. His threat to score from the block caused several double-teams, opening up shooters and cutters to the hoop.
