HARDWOOD: Kansas’ Biggest Stock Risers
Prep Hoops takes a look at some of most versatile performers n Lawrence.
The Hardwood Classic wrapped up action on Sunday with several standout performances taking place in the final stages of the tournament.
Here, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at several in-state players who stood out throughout the event.
10 — Jarrett Hensley, 6’7, F, 2019, Lawrence, MoKan Elite (pictured)
Hensley is blessed with a long, athletic frame and a lot of bounce in his step. He can play on the perimeter where he has an emerging skill set as he can shoot the 3 a little, handle the ball and pass, yet is willing to take his game into the paint where he finishes around the basket at the offensive end and blocks shots at the defensive end. He is playing behind a deep and talented front line on MoKan, but still finds a way to make his mark when given opportunities.
33 — Xavier Bell, 6’4, G, 2020, Andover Central, MoKan Elite 16U
Bell continues to impress this offseason with a combination of size, skill, athleticism and some versatility, He handles it well, can get downhill and score in the lane and is capable of running at team at the point, or can play off the ball. He likes to get physical for a guard and mix it up defensively or in the paint but also has plenty of finesse in his game as well.
11 — Da’Vonshai Harden, 6’5, G, 2020, Topeka, SSA Elite Black
Harden has taken his game to another level since we seen him last, mainly as an improved ball handler and by taking his guard skills to a new level. Harden has good size and athleticism and on Thursday, he showed the ability to be a lead ball handler, handle pressure and make plays off the bounce, whether it was getting to the basket or helping set up teammates.
1 — Dariq Williams, 5’11, PG, 2019, Parsons, PK Hoops
If there is a more athletic player under 6’0 in Kansas, we haven’t seen him. Williams can handle it, can get pretty much wherever he wants on the court off the bounce and is a creative finisher around the basket. He has good court vision and can find the open man and has the ability to lead a team at the point. With added consistency and a refined outside shot, Williams could take his game to the next level.
3 — Harper Williams, 6’0, PG, 2019, Salina Central, WCS Team Driven
Williams continues to raise his profile this offseason as the Salina Central standout has performed well for Team Driven. He is a standout lead guard who can handle the ball, lead a team and is a knock down shooter with range well beyond the 3-point arc. Williams is also a standout competitor who plays with a chip on his shoulder and plays with intensity.
