Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the Palmetto State teams playing out of state this week during the last NCAA Live Period of the summer.
Upward Stars Upstate has gotten off to a (2-0) start down in Orlando, FL at the Prime Event. Upward Stars Upstate coached by David Bentley started things off with a 72-48 victory over G1 Sports. Ta’Lon Cooper led the way with 19 points, Matt Kormylo and Derrick “DJ” Sinkler both added 15 points. North Greenville University (NCAA D2) commit David Muncy added 13 points. Case Roach from Travelers Rest HS chipped in with 8 points.
Upward Stars Upstate got by Team ENC 78-67 in the 2nd game from Orlando, FL. Cooper kept up his hot play with 26 points in the victory. Muncy and Tristan Davis both followed suit with 11 points while Cooper Fowler added 10 points and 9 rebounds. Davis recently joined the team after playing with the Carolina Wolves North Carolina.
Upward Stars Upstate will play the Philly Freedom Stars on Friday afternoon.
Team South Carolina has had a solid summer. Team South Carolina started off (2-0) in Las Vegas, NV at the Fab 48 Basketball Tourney. Team South Carolina started things off vs the DFW Defenders with a 60-51 victory. Russell Jones and Tre Jackson led the charge with 14 points while Walyn Napper added 12 points. Chase Claxton chipped in with 8 points and Traye Carson 5 points. Carson committed earlier this week to Army.
Team South Carolina defeated Lake Show 17’s Elite in the nightcap from Spring Valley HS 70-61. Claxton led the way with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Carson added 13 points while Jackson came in with 10 points. Juwan Perdue missed the opening game and came in late. The team is playing without Head Coach Bryan Brown who lost his mother earlier this week. Mike Alexander is coaching the team in Las Vegas.
