GASO WICHITA: Kansas Top Big Men
Prep Hoops takes a look at several standouts from Wichita this weekend.
The Great American Shootout Midwest wrapped up play on Sunday at Wichita Hoops Facility in Bel Aire, Kan. with several standout performances taking place in the final stages of bracket play.
Here, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at several Kansas big men who stood out throughout the weekend.
Trenton Driskill, 6’7, F, 2019, Valley Center, NLHA
Forward with some size at 6’7 who can move his feet a little at the defensive end, sets good screens and can step out and shoot the 3. Driskill is comfortable playing on the perimeter where he shows a smooth 3-point shooting stroke and the ability to handle the ball a little, but can also get inside and bang in the paint as well.
Devon Koehn, 6’7, F, 2019, Maize, NLHA
Koehn is an underrated forward who combines some toughness in the paint, ability to rebound, defend and combines those attributes with good athleticism and agility and willingness to run the floor and finish in transition.
Kael Kordonowy, 6’7, PF, 2019, Maize South, River City 17U Blue (pictured)
Kordonowy brings a lot of activity, bounce and energy to the court. He runs the floor exceptionally well, has some skill at the offensive end, and is a willing defender, able to protect the rim, block shots and play above the rim. A long, rangy 6’7, Kordonowy plays bigger than his listed height as he gets off the floor quickly to block shots or throw down dunks.
9 — Mason Thiessen, 6’8, PF/C, 2019, Inman, WCS Team Driven
Theissen is an interesting mix of size and skill as he brings a big, strong frame as well as nimble feet and an all-around skill set. He can bang in the post and score on the block, but can also step out and knock down outside shots as well and showed range out to the 3-point line throughout the weekend in Wichita.
32 —Ethan Vlasic, 6’7, PF/C, 2019, Blue Valley North, KC Spurs 17U Silver
Vlasic is another player we have seen a lot of this spring and summer and has been in numerous reports over the past three months. He is a much improved all-around player and mostly stays within himself. He’s a defensive presence who rebounds, defends the basket and runs the floor well. Offensively he has gotten stronger with the ball and has shown he can make a mid range shot as well.
