GASO WICHITA: Kansas All-Tournament (2019)
The Great American Shootout Midwest wrapped up play on Sunday at Wichita Hoops Facility in Bel Aire, Kan. with several standout performances taking place in the final stages of bracket play.
Here, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at several Kansas 2019 players who stood out throughout the weekend.
5 — Caleb Grill, 6’3, SG, 2019, Maize, NLHA 17U
Grill drew a crowd of college coaches throughout the weekend and didn’t disappointed as he showed he is one of the state’s premier guard prospects in the 2019 class. He brings a unique blend of skill and athleticism as shown by his ability to knock down 3-pointers, defend at a high level and even threw down an eye-opening slam dunk on Thursday night. He does a good job off the ball, moving, cutting and setting up defenders as he works off screens and gets open, but can also create his own shot off the bounce. He currently holds several Division I offers and added an offer from Nebraska on Friday.
6 — Johnny Murdock, 5’10, PG, 2019, Wichita Northeast, River City 17U Black
A terrific outside shooter, Murdock has taken his game to new levels this offseason. Known throughout much of his high school career for his shooting ability, Murdock has become a true point guard, capable of handling the ball under pressure and leading a team. He can get to the basket, does a good job of finishing through contact and can still shoot with range.
10 — Jaden Okon, 6’4, SG, 2019, Heights, NLHA 17U
Okon is an elite-level athlete, capable of playing above the rim at both ends of the floor. His offensive game is still a work in progress at times, but he shows a lot of tools. He can knock down 3-pointers, handles it a little and can get to the basket off the bounce. He is explosive in the open court, and as a defender is capable of blocking shots and locking up opponents. NLHA ran a lot of action for him to take advantages of mismatches in the post where he was able to take advantage of his size. Okon is still growing as a player but he showed in Wichita he is a player to watch.
4 — Trey Sides, 6’1, G, 2019, Phillipsburg, WKE Eddy
Sides is a terrific athlete with an athletic basketball frame. He is a tough competitor who handles it well, creates offense for himself off the bounce and has a smooth outside shooting stroke with good range. Sides can play on the ball or off the ball, is able to run the point a little, and can also play the 2 where he can create his own shot or run off screens. He is a creative passer and showed the ability to make flashy passes at times. He is easily among the most underrated players in Kansas’ 2019 class.
3 — Harper Williams, 6’2, PG, 2019, Salina Central, WCS Team Driven
Williams turned heads this weekend in Wichita as the Salina Central product helped lead WCS Team Driven to the championship game of the 17U NBA Silver bracket. He is a crafty ball handler, capable of running the point and also brings the ability to light up the scoreboard from 3-point range. He is coming off a standout season at Central and is emerging as one of the state’s top players in the 2019 class.
