PH: Being an experienced and more battle-tested guard, how would you describe your role on this year’s Dwyer team? How did your style of play mirror the style emphasized by the coaching staff?
GQ: My role on this year’s team was really to be the floor general and to lead by example. With that, I made sure my whole team was involved in the game and everyone was playing their part. My style of play really fits the system, because you always need someone to be a coach on the court and off the court. They gave me the freedom to be a leader. We had real tight bonds as a team and that translated to how we played out there.
PH: What would you describe as the bedrock attributes of your game? How do you project yourself transitioning to the next level?
GQ: My best attribute would have to be serving as a lock-down defender and also my passing ability. I really take pride in being able to create and make those around me better. Leading a team and being able to facilitate, it’s a responsibility.
With that, you really have to be a leader and can’t be soft in that process. As far as the next level, I see myself getting better as I became a better shooter. With the workload and the focus right, I will get my shot great.
PH: With guys like yourself and (high-scoring 6-foot-5 off guard Miles Coleman) leaving the program at a high level, which of the younger and returning guys would you anticipate in stepping up and filling the void?
GQ: Some of the key guys would be (5-foot-10 Class of 2019 combination guard) Michael Ingraham, Brandon Williams, Bailey Stephanos, and several others. They are all already good players who know the system well. They will become better over the off-season and live up to the demands of being a veteran and being accountable on the court.
PH: Which moments were most memorable about a 2017-18 campaign?
GQ: The most memorable moment this season was when we played University School (with Vernon Carey, Scottie Barnes, Drue Drinnon, and Trey Doomes). It was a sold out gym, standing room only. I just love playing in front of big crowds and the energy level of the crowd was unbelievable. This years team, we had our ups and downs but we always stuck together no matter what goes wrong. We know what we were supposed to accomplish we just fell a little bit short.
PH: Having re-classed into 2019, where do you envision yourself next season?
GQ: I plan on spending that year at a prep school, I am undecided right now. I don’t know which one yet.
