Chicago Summer Jam: Sunday Standouts
Romeoville, Il — Sunday was the final day of the Baylor Youth Chicago Summer Jam in Romeoville, Il and the final day of the 1st weekend of the second live period. Several players stood out and impressed in front of college coaches and boosted their stock we take a look at some of those players here.
Sunday Standouts
SF – 2019 6’7’’ Terrence Shannon Jr. – Mac Irvin Fire
The former Lincoln Park SF who will spend a prep year at Woodstock Academy (CT) arrived at the Chicago Summer Jam sunday after playing in the Peach Invitational Tournament over the weekend. Shannon put on a show sunday will an array of highlight dunks. Shannon is a 6’7’’ wing that can really attack the basket and finish. He has improved his overall game with a much developed handle and defense where he did a good job rebounding and blocking shots. Shannon is best out on the break where he can run the floor and use his athleticism. Prep Hoops Illinois will get to see more of Shannon this upcoming week at the NY2LA Summer Jam in Milwaukee.
SF – 2019 6’7’’ Kahlil Whitney – Mac Irvin Fire (NJ)
Whitney who played his freshman year in Chicago is a Standout at Roselle Catholic HS in New Jersey. Whitney like Shannon but on a show at the rim in a win over Twin City Pirates. Whitney is a Top-25 national prospect who has improved his skills every year. Known for his high flying dunks Whitney also is a solid defender, passer and has developed a nice perimeter game. In the game I scouted Whitney hit threes’ both off the bounce and off the catch. Being able to score from all three levels makes Whitney a dangerous matchup.
G – 2019 6’6’’ Jaeden King – Twin Cities Pirates (MN)
King was one of the better three point shooters on the weekend for Twin Cities. Moving over to Twin Cities after playing with Howard Pulley in the Spring. King when on a three point tear in a tough loss to Mac Irvin Fire. A long lanky guard at 6’6’’ has good length and a good form on his shot and a quick release. Competed on both end and wasn’t afraid to go out and get a basket when when his team needed it. Currently has multiple division 2 offers but look for that list to grow if he continues to shoot lights off over the next two weekends.
F – 2020 6’6’’ Ramean Hinton – Team Rose
Hinton capped off a solid weekend with a good showing on Sunday in a win over Illinois Ballers. Hinton once again efficient around the rim. He ran the floor well and moved without the ball to get open. A playmaker he can effect the game in many ways one being protecting the rim and rebounding. He moves well, and plays with a high level of energy. Has a lot of upside especially if he can improve on his outside shot and ball handling to be able to play more on the wing at the next level.
G – 2020 6’0’’ Elijah Pickens – Team Rose
Pickens the lead guard for the Team Rose 16U started off hot in a win over the Illinois Ballers where he hit back to back threes’ and showed off some slick passing to drop dimes out to his teammates. Pickens in a PG who has good handles and can get hot from deep like he did in the game I scouted. Still needs to work on being more consistent and limiting his turnovers, but on Sunday put together a solid complete game and was able to lead his team to a victory. Team Rose would go on to win the 16U Championship. Pickens will be a player to keep an eye on out at Curie High School this upcoming year.
G – 2019 6’0’’ Trey Boston – Y & R Parham
Downers Grove North G Trey Boston shot it well all weekend from deep. Boston has a scorers mentality at the guard position and is a shooter who can create his own shot and score from all three levels. Hit some big time shots down the stretch in a win over Beyond Ball in overtime. Boston is a quick guard who was one of the top scorers all weekend. Holds an offer from Lewis University but don’t be surprised if he adds to that list here soon after this weekend.
