Catching Up With Rising Star Darrell Belcher
Not many players in Michigan have had a bigger spring and summer season than Darrell Belcher. The combo guard from Grand Rapids Catholic Central has been shooting up the prospect rankings in the class of 2019. In both grassroots events and team camps, Belcher has stood out from the competition. He’s an excellent ball handler and a prolific shooter as well. Belcher picked up an offer from Grand Valley State University two days ago. I recently caught up with Belcher for a Question & Answer session.
Question: What do you think has been key to your great spring/summer performances?
Darrell Belcher:
Just working on my game consistently and showing what I can do when it’s time.
Question: In what ways do you feel you’ve improved this summer?
Darrell Belcher:
I fee like I’ve really improved on my leadership and gaining confidence in myself and players around me.
Question: What areas of your game are you focusing on improving?
Darrell Belcher:
I’m working on my ball handling, shooting and speed and quickness.
Question: You recently received an offer from GVSU. How does it feel when a school offers?
Darrell Belcher:
When a school offers it feels good and makes me hungry for more.
Question: Any other recruiting news?
Darrell Belcher:
I’ve been talking to several d1 schools.
Question: Who’s the toughest player you’ve matched up with this spring/summer?
Darrell Belcher:
The toughest player I’ve played against is Payton Harley.
Question: What are you looking forward to the most in basketball from here on out?
Darrell Belcher:
I’m looking to get better everyday and making the players around me better.
Question: What NBA player do you feel your game compares to?
Darrell Belcher:
I feel like my game is modeled after Russell Westbrook and shades of Jimmy Butler.
Question: What are your goals this next high school season?
Darrell Belcher:
Next year I’m going to help lead my team back to the Breslin Center and grow as a team everyday.
