Breaking News: Hines Commits
Every athlete grows up with dreams of playing sports. The older we get the closer the dream of playing in college becomes a reality for a select few. Three-time state champion Kellen Hines is making his dream to play college basketball a reality today as he tells Prep Hoops he has officially committed to Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
“The location of SWOSU was perfect for me,” said Hines. “It is close to my friends and family. Also, I saw how much they are turning the program around with Coach Evans and thought I would fit in well with the players he is bringing in.”
First-year Head Coach Terry Evans is quickly making a huge impact at SWOSU and he has not even coached his first game for SWOSU.
“I think he is one of the best coaches in the state,” said Hines. “I really think he will do big things with the program. He has had great success everywhere he has been. I am also looking forward to playing for alongside his son Tre.”
There was not any doubt SWOSU was the place for Hines with the location and coaching staff, but the facilities were the cherry on top. For those who have not seen the new arena at SWOSU, it has to be one of the best places to play in all of NCAA Division II.
“I loved the facilities there so much,” said Hines. “The gym is definitely one of the best D2 guys in the country. I also really liked the weight room and plan on spending a lot of time in there.”
Hines is excited for his college career in Weatherford for many different reasons.
“In college I am just ready to show I can play with anyone and work just as hard as anyone,” said Hines. “I am looking forward to learning more in college and getting my education. i think it will be a lot of fun, especially since I have a lot of friends there which will make it feel a lot more like home.”
Now that Hines has committed he plans to sign early with SWOSU. He will have a lot less pressure on him heading into his high school season in a chase for his fourth Gold Ball.
“It is nice getting it out of the way so I do not have to worry about what I plan on doing in the future,” said Hines. “I am really blessed to be able to go somewhere close with nice facilities.”
