AZ Club players to watch: Miami Vikings
The Miami Vikings basketball club has made the club tournament rounds this summer, including this past weekend’s Lori Piestewa Native American Tournament. Here are some of the team’s top players to watch:
- Matheu Escovedo plays point guard in a quick and efficient manner, often dribbling from the back court all the way to the opponent’s basket for lay ups, though he could often be served a little better to kick out to open players on the wing more. He also rebounds decently for his size against other guards.
- Before you look at any of his tangible skills, look at the intelligence Michael Troglia shows on the floor. He always seems to be in the right plays at the right time, either with a quick cut to the basket while his defender is caught on the back foot or with a sneaky steal nobody saw coming. HE can also knock down corner threes if left open.
- One of the taller players on a small team, Matthew Riddle uses his size well as an on-ball defender, usually one of the first players to get back on that end after either a make or miss. His offensive game is a bit raw, as he can do a little bit of everything but has no particular go-to scoring move at this point. He does rebound well on the offensive end, which could become really dangerous the more he improves on his finishing around the basket.
- Brady Bartholomew does everything fast on offense. After defensive rebounds, he always hustles down the court to either fill the lane or get chances with the ball near the rim himself. That same quickness shows itself on defense, where even if he gets beat off the dribble, he will be able to recover quickly to make an impact, or at least minimize damage.
