AZ Club players to watch: Assist Outbreak
The Assist Outbreak basketball club often finds itself in late rounds of tournaments throughout summer basketball. Here are a few of the club’s key players to look out for moving forward.
- Ricardo Villanueva likes to open up the offense for his team with drives to the basket for lay ups and kicks out to open shooters. He really seems to enjoy physical defense, getting into opponents’ chests and making them work for every inch on the floor, something uncommon at the high school level.
- Yoann Djassa, though not large in stature, plays very physical defense as well, with quick feet and smart movement to boot. His contested jumpers go in at a decent clip, especially coming off screens, and he is a very crafty finisher at the hoop.
- Angelo Lewis can rebound well, though not nearly as big as some of the players he matches up with on the low block. Rather than using height and leaping ability to secure boards, he boxes out well and get to the right spots to time the bounce off the rim. He is also not easy to get around down low, getting set in his defensive stance and not being moved much.
- Ziggy Yeahquo makes it a mission to get to the hoop pretty much every time he has the ball, to draw fouls and hit lay ups. His screens also open up other players for shot attempts and for even more shot attempts for himself in the pick-and-roll.
