Adidas Invitational: 2020 Standouts
The Adidas Invitational was a great opportunity for us to get out and see a wide array of talent, focusing mainly on the top 2019 and 2020 prospects at the event. Today, we breakdown some of our top players we saw.
Carson Burtron – 6’2 SG 2020 – Lebanon (IN) / Indiana Elite Heat 2020
Carson is a big guard who showed more on-ball skill than I had seen before. Really capable scorer with the size to overpower smaller guards. Thought he improved his handles and was a better creator in the half court. Hit a couple pull-up jumpers off the dribble but never really overplayed his hand. Likes to play a little frantic at times but never was out of control. Attacked the boards even on his own misses and with his size, he should be an impactful rebounder in time.
Will Lasater – 6’6 PF 2020 – West Lafayette (IN) / Indiana Elite Heat 2020
Will is a long, thin forward who can stretch the floor and shoot from distance. The talented power forward has really improved with his comfort level on the perimeter, allowing him to find more production as a shooter and ball handler. Not to the point where he can get all the way to the rim but improved enough where he can get into a pull-up jumper or pass out of it to an open teammate.
Turner Royal – 6’1 PG 2020 – Bloomfield (IN) / DistinXion 2020 Black
Turner played really well, showcasing his ability to lead a team. Was very good in transition, pushing the tempo and trying to score and create with some balance. Showed off a little more of a mid-range game than we saw before, utilizing the jump shot as a pull-up. Was big on using screens at the top of the key to make plays happen and was perfectly willing to pass rather than shoot, showing good decision making.
Grant Coleman – 6’7 PF 2020 – Mahomet-Seymour (IL) / IE North 2020
Grant is a big forward with a strong frame and he’s become a better scorer as of late. Really solid on the interior where he has tons of strength and will finish through everything. He even showed he is willing to step out and shoot. In better shape than the Spring and moving a little quicker. Has a chance to be a good small-ball four with how he has developed.
Justin DeGraaf – 6’6 SF 2020 – Center Grove (IN) / Indiana Legends 2020
Justin is a big wing who has grown and filled out in the last year. Looks physically outstanding and has the type of body that is going to develop nicely at the next level. He’s more comfortable with the ball in his hands but is physically imposing at times in the post.
Justin Long – 6’3 SG 2020 – Fishers (IN) / IE North 2020
Justin is a solid guard who has grown a bit in size but kept his handles there. Really good in the half court where he can break his man down and get to the rim. Not wildly creative but has a good stutter step move. Finished around the rim really well and has enough size at 6’3 to play against bigger guard. Will impact the rebounding game and gives you a little lineup versatility as a 2/3.
