Prospect Profile: Rayven Turner (2021 Jefferson HS/Nike Team Northwest 16U)
It bears repeating, the Class of 2021 in the state of Oregon is loaded with talent. Rayven Turner, a rising sophomore from Jefferson HS, is one of the top wings and at 6-foot-5, 185-pounds he’s arguably the top athlete in the class. Turner played this spring with Nike Team Northwest’s 15U squad on the EYBL circuit and is looking for even more in July.
“It was a good experience,” Turner said of the spring. “I think we started coming together as a team and started to play well. I was able to help my team get one win and I was happy about that. My shots were falling and I was happy to bring my team together. I’m trying to get more shifty with my ball-handling and my shooting and finishing at the rim with both hands.”
Turner is a tremendous athlete and is developing his skills as he transitions to playing more on the wing. He was out with an ankle injury in the month of June so he didn’t get to play with Jefferson during summer league play. But what he’s shown so far this spring has gotten people intrigued although it’s a little early for serious college recruiting interest.
“I’m still looking into it – I’m happy with any offer I can get,” Turner said. “I just want a coach that’s going to be hard on me and wants me to do well – one that really cares about me and wants to see me to succeed.”
Turner notes that he’s set to be healthy to play again in July and he’ll suit up for Nike Team Northwest – this time playing with the 16U squad. “I just want to see how I do playing up,” Turner said. “I’m not going in there expecting anything, I just want to play well and see how it goes.”
