It is so early on in the evaluation process with the 2022 class as they haven’t even played a high school game at this point.  Heading into July we wanted to give fans and high-major coaches a look at three potential Illinois standouts in the class that have emerged already.

Amari Bailey (Morgan Park)

Travel Team: Mac Irvin Fire 16U

Bailey has a chance to be one of the premier prospects in the state of Illinois over the next few years.  The middle school phenom played up on the 16U level for the Mac Irvin Fire this spring.  The skill set and size at 6’4” is undeniable.  The former DePaul commit was active defensively using his length to get steals when we saw him this spring.  Scores well in transition being able to handle it with ease at his size.  Jump shot is streaky at times, but he shoots a good ball.  Drilled the game winning three to start off the season for the Fire 16U back at Swish N Dish.  Worth monitoring that there is a possibility that he plays his high school ball out of state.

AJ Casey (Simeon)

Travel Team: Meanstreets 14U

While Bailey gets most of the hype there is another strong contender for the top prospect in the state for the 2022 class with this Simeon post.  The 6’7” center is a young big that has size, but has game to back it up.  He has a projectable frame with long arms and broad shoulders.  Should be able to add weight on easy over the next few years.  Incredibly mobile for his size with fluid post moves and runs the floor like a deer!  Flashes advanced footwork in the post already and gets on the glass.  Casey has a chance to be special.  Made noise with Simeon’s varsity during June.

Jaylen Drane (Simeon)

Travel Team: Young & Reckless 15U

Drane is one of the top incoming freshmen in the state at the guard spot.  The 6’2” combo guard is long and angular.  He is explosive with the ball in transition having a great burst getting through the defense.  Wins off the dribble with smooth handles.  Jump shot definitely shows potential in the pull up game.  Sound passer that has a high IQ for his age.  Like what he could develop into on the defensive end with his length and anticipation.
