2020 F Jace Howard discusses his transfer to University, recruitment and more
Jace Howard is one of six kids that former NBA player and current Miami Heat assistant coach Juwan Howard has.
Of the six Howard children, Jace and Jett are two of four boys, the older ones Juwan Jr. and Joshua played college ball before them.
Jace and Jett are still in high school. Jace is a 2020 prospect while Jett is a 2022 prospect.
The 6'6", 200-pound Jace Howard holds offers from FAU and San Diego State. He's also drawn interest from Michigan, Iowa, Texas, Penn, Sienna, Mercer, and College of Charleston.
Howard talked about his decision to transfer to University alongside No. 1 ranked 2019 Florida prospect Vernon Carey Jr. and No. 1 ranked 2020 Florida prospect Scottie Barnes.
Previously at Gulliver Prep, he joins a University program that won the Class 5A state title and finished as the runner-up in the Geico Nationals, losing to Montverde.
"What made me make the move to go to University School was the relationship I have with Coach [Jim] Carr," Howard told Prep Hoops. "Plus, the big contribution he thinks I can bring to help the school in winning another state championship and getting back to the Geico national championship."
Howard says he felt like he grew physically and mentally as a player during his sophomore season at Gulliver Prep.
"Playing a semi-national schedule was helpful for my development playing better competition which only got me better," he said"
Currently, Howard is playing on the UAA Circuit with the Florida Lightning.
"It has been one of my favorite years of travel basketball," he said. "I've been playing with the same core group of guys since 3rd and 4th grade which helps with our chemistry on and off the court."
In terms of his biggest strengths, he pointed to his motor, defense, outside shot and ability to attack the rim.
Howard says he feels like he can get better at everything in the game.
"There is nothing I can't get improve at," he said. "But what I focus on most right now is ball handling off the dribble shot, guard skills, and getting a more consistent shot."
Playing with confidence, Howard is coming up quickly. He was able to shine more often than not at Gulliver Prep with his extended opportunity and supporting cast. He'll move onto University where he'll develop his skills further and be open more often than not due to the attention drawn from Carey Jr. and Barnes. But, he can hold his own regardless of everything.
