2019 DME G Deandre Harvey talks recruitment, junior season and more
Up in Daytona, 2019 guard Deandre Harvey is carving out his own path.
Previously at Port Orange Atlantic, the 6’2″, 165-pounder has drawn interest from Morgan State, UNF, Kennesaw State, Norfolk State and Winthrop.
“My junior year at DME was a success,” Harvey told Prep Hoops. “My skill set got a lot better and I’ve gotten stronger since I’ve been here at DME. My confidence grew a lot in my mid-range game a ton and also me being a point guard for the first year.”
Harvey says colleges like that he plays at his own pace, has a tight handle and can shoot consistently (even from NBA range).
He’s running with Showtime Hoops this summer. It is Harvey’s first year with the program. He says it is going well but now it is time to finish strong.
In terms of his biggest strengths, Harvey pointed to his 3-point shot and mid-range jumper. He wants to improve his finishes around the rim, his floater and being vocal on the court.
Harvey says DME has really helped him take the next step forward.
“Playing at DME which is one of the highest levels of basketball was a success because it was me able to prove that I can play against top guards and teams in the country,” he said. “As well as playing with Showtime Hoops, it has allowed me to prove that and how I can contribute to a Division I program.”
This is a crucial senior campaign for Harvey, who is in a good spot at an a rising program that is DME. They get kids ready for the next level and take basketball seriously in their top notch facility. Harvey should be able to perform at a high level with Showtime Hoops in July and bring that tenacity into the fall.
