Top Shooters: Belmont Team Camp
Belmont hosted man of Nashville and Franklin’s top teams for team camp Monday-Wednesday. Wednesday night tired players made many questionable decisions and teams played a tad sloppy. Still, bright spots and bright players dominated in patches.
The following players buried the outside shots with regularity.
K.J. Johnson (Marshall County)
Middle Tennessee doesn’t have five players better than K.J. Johnson (2019 #15) . With the elite quickness and wiggle of a college freshman, Johnson is so much more than a fantastic shooter. His game continues to blossom into something truly special. Wednesday evening K.J. worked on getting to the basket. The lefty did not offer as many triples as usual, but no shooter’s list is complete without the DI prospect.
Jayden Watkins (Nolensville)
Gritty guard Jayden Watkins buried consecutive three-pointers against Ooltewah High. He did plenty of defending, but earned his way on this list with a quick release and confidence.
Morgan Anderson (Nashville Christian)
Morgan Anderson shoots that J like he never missed before in his life. The upright back and high release point help him. With a repeatable shooting form Anderson hit shot after shot on a quality Brentwood Academy “B’ team. Keep an eye on his post-shot celebration too. Though subtle it is worth a gander. Anderson spins and appears to holster his gun. All in a day’s work. Incidentally, Belmont’s 2018-2019 roster includes a former Nashville Christian Eagle (Caleb Hollander).
Jack Thurman (Brentwood)
Shots kept falling for the taller guard Jack Thurman. Thurman plays like a point guard, but probably projects as a college wing. Either way his shooting touch keeps getting better. He finished the night against Marshall County with a few nice flicks of the wrist.
