Top Backcourts
With June season wrapping up, here are some of the top backcourts in the state. These duos and trios are able to create for themselves and their teammates at an extremely high level. Below are some of the toughest backcourts for opposing teams to guard.
Top Backcourts
Olympus
Guards: Rylan Jones and Jeremey DowDell
Jones and DowDell have earned the right to sit atop this list after blowing throw the 5A competition last year. Jones is the focal point of the duo due to his ability to score it as well as create for others. He understands where his teammates need the basketball in order to be successful. With that said, DowDell is easy to get the basketball to as he can create and be successful in an array of spots. He is without a doubt one of the top shooters in the state. His lethal abilities from behind the line are crucial to what makes Olympus so dangerous.
Wasatch Academy
Guards: Corbin Zentner, Tre Williams and Leo Colimero
Zentner, Williams, and Colimero are a potent trio. Zentner is undersized but quick with good change of pace and direction. Further, he does a good job of getting his long and athletic teammates involved. Williams and Colimero are long and athletic shooting guards who can play an array of positions. Offensively, their versatile skill set is highlighted by Zentner’s passing abilities. These two prospects are the real deal and will be relied upon more this upcoming season. Despite their talent, their biggest competition for having huge numbers is their extremely stacked team that is capable of having a number of 20+ scorers.
Fremont
Guards: Baylor Harop and Dallin Hall
Hall and Harop can score the basketball with the best of them. Despite their youth, these two prospects led Fremont to one of the strongest seasons Fremont has had in a little while. Hall is far more than just a scorer. His ability to get into the paint and create for his teammates makes him one of the biggest assets in the state. These two should be ready to have a huge encore en route to trying to make a title run this upcoming season.
Lone Peak
Guards: Jaxon Pollard and Josh Jackson
Pollard and Jackson might be the most inexperienced on this top backcourts list as far as varsity basketball is concerned. However, there is no doubt that these two prospects are more than ready to take over the backcourt at Lone Peak and have huge seasons. Despite an injury that limited Pollard’s junior season, he has already received NCAA Division-I interest and offers due to his solid play and potential. Keep an eye on these two this upcoming season.
Pleasant Grove
Guards: Casey Brown and Co.
While Pleasant Grove does not have a “dynamic duo”, Brown partners with multiple guards who play at a high level. Kawika Akina and Kael Mikkelsen are the primary partners who aid Brown as well as Pleasant Grove. These three prospects combined for almost 30 points and 10 assists per game this past season. Brown is the lead in the group; however, Akina and Mikkelsen definitely played their roles well.
