Top 5 2019’s from WNC, Piedmont and ENC
The state of North Carolina is broke down into three regions: WNC, Piedmont and ENC. Here is a look at the top 5 players from each region.
WNC
- Jalen Lecque (Christ School)-One of the most athletic players in the class; strong; good handle; able to attack off the dribble; can finish above the rim.
- Caleb Mills (Asheville Christian)-Mills is a hybrid point guard that has the length at the position that is becoming more and more popular among college coaches.He can score from all points on the floor and is a great passer.
- Brandon Stone (Christ School)-One of the best big men in the state, Stone is a point forward that can handle the ball well, shoot it from deep and can get buckets in the paint.
- Ren Dyer (North Buncombe)-One of the most athletic players in the region other than Lecque, Dyer is as tough as they come. He is a strong rebounder; can bang in the paint; has the ability to score in the paint; can step out and knock down the mid0-range jumper.
- Raishaun Brown (Asheville Christian)-The lefty has a smooth overall game, he has nice vision and puts passes on point for teammates. Also has a gift for scoring the ball at a high rate with a low rate of FGA. Has nice lateral quickness and a impressive IQ for the game of basketball.
- D’Angelo Elliott (Carolina Day)-Long arms and can shoot it; started gaining some more attention on the recruiting side after switching to Mooresville Magic. Athletic; can score from all levels; has a college ready body.
Piedmont
- Wendell Moore (Cox Mill HS)-Very Skilled and versatile player that knows how to win, can play the 1-5 positions due to his skill level and height. Has a great IQ for the game, plays both ends of the floor with good energy and stays out of foul trouble. Is a young player for his grade level which makes him that much more intriguing.
- Jae’lyn Withers (North Meck)-Player that has seen a huge jump in his recruitment over the last few months, he’s a versatile player that can play inside as well as step outside and score it. Numerous times throughout the season and summer we saw him put together some double/doubles in points and rebounds. Recently offered by Arizona.
- Patrick Williams (West Charlotte)-A big guard who has size, length , athleticism to go along with a great skill set and natural feel for the game. He can score off the dribble and is a match-up nightmare with his size. He can score over smaller guards and can take it in the paint and finish against big men.
- Donovan Gregory (Carmel Christian)-Really began to blowup on the recruiting scene after a 30 point game at the Hoopsgiving Tournament this past year. Has very nice athleticism and good height for a wing a the college level. Can score the ball in multiple ways and can defend multiple positions without fouling.
- Keyshaun and Kobe Langley (Wesleyan Christian)-The former VT commits have a very smooth game, has a natural ability to score the ball in bunches and is automatic from midrange. Also has very impressive athletic ability that they uses not only to finishes dunks but also to grab offensive rebounds. Outstanding ballhandler that understands how to keep defenders off balance with a nice mixture of moves.
ENC
- Josh Nickelberry (Northwood Temple)-One of the best scorers in the State, can score it well off the catch as well as off the bounce. Has continued to polish the rest of his game and has added more athleticism, gets better and better each time we see him play. Recently committed to Louisville.
- Greg Gantt (Trinity Christian)-One of the most underrated players in the region, he can play multiple positions and understands how to play with other star players. Can shoot the ball from deep, play inside above and below the rim, rebounds and blocks shots at a very high rate.
- Jalen Benjamin (Leesville Road)-This young man has a chance to be absolutely special, don’t be surprised to see a huge jump in his ranking in the upcoming weeks. He is a fantastic ballhandler and an absolute nightmare for defenders to try and contain, also a knock down shooter from deep.
- Malik Johnson (Word of God)-One of the best scoring guards and distributors in the state; the former 2018 guard is a tough; skilled; player that knows how to win.
- Justin McKoy (Panther Creek)-He can run the floor for a big man, he can finish with either hand at the rim. He has a great feel for the game, he has a high basketball IQ, and he is very athletic. Extremely long, McKoy is a defensive presence with his ability to alter shot selection. He uses his long arms to block shots and give the offense fits when he is in the lane
