The Bossier Summer League – Week 2
Week two of the Bossier Summer League will begin in a couple of hours and there will be some interesting contest on the floor tonight. Last week was definitely action packed and this week should be just as good. We will preview some of the key match-ups tonight right here on Prep Hoops Louisiana.
Green Oaks vs Homer – 5:20
Homer is a new addition to the summer league lineup as they replaced North Webster. The Pelicans are led by their super talented point guard Jayshun Miller (6’0″, 2020). He is known for scoring the ball at all three levels on the floor and is a very hard cover for the defense. Green Oaks and their new head coach, Corie Deans, will lead a squad that is coming off a district title. They are also coming off of a first round playoff exit. Coach Deans is hoping to build the Giants in his tough, hard-nosed image while improving on last year’s success. Green Oaks will possibly catch Homer without Miller’s services due to an AAU trip to New York. If Miller plays, look for offensive fireworks from the opening tip.
Red River vs Bossier – 6:40
There will be some prep star power missing in this contest on both benches. Red River will miss super sophomore Emaryeon McDonald (2021) and his older brother Gakerron (McDonald) (2019) while Bossier will miss their 2019 back court of (Kalaas) Roots and (Jacoby) Decker. All of these players traveled with Louisiana Select to New York for an AAU tournament. Even with these four missing, this contest should still be hotly contested. Red River has 2019 forward Jessie Davis to anchor the post. He has become a big scoring threat in the lane and will look to do so in this game. Davis will have to defend Dante Bell (2020) in the post, however. The #3 ranked player by Prep Hoops Louisiana will not be alone. Bossier backups Tim King (2020) and Cody Dean (2020) are gifted players who will replace the starters for this contest. Both guards can penetrate and shoot, so the Red River guards will need to play tight defense against them.
Woodlawn vs Huntington – 7:20
Woodlawn has been up and down this summer with a .500 record going into tonight’s battle. Huntington is coming off of a 2-1 weekend at Louisiana Tech. However, their last contest was a 30 point drubbing by Ouachita Parish. Huntington will look for 6’8″ forward/center Kenny Hunter (2020) to dominate the middle. That will be hard to do against the Delatrion Moton (2021). The head-to-head guard battle with Tramichael Moton (2019) and Dajerious Jackson will be one to watch as well. Because they are district rivals, one of the other guards on either team might be a wildcard in deciding this game. Look for Javarri Williams (2021) of Huntington to embrace that wildcard role.
Southwood vs Bossier – 8:40
To cap off the action tonight, Southwood and Bossier will square off. Last week they were probably the most heralded programs playing because of the firepower that both teams have returning. Coach Eddie Hamilton still believes that Roots and Decker will play. So, he will have his troops prepared. There will be some hype centered around 6’7″ wing Christian Caldwell (2020). He ripped the rim down with monstrous dunks on Woodlawn players last week and will look to continue the trend. Being that Cody Dean is a former Cowboy, he will look to play well against his former teammates. The senior trio of Rod Stinson, Bobby Baker, and Sadarionne Ellis will look to improve upon their play as well and lead the Cowboys to a win in a game that is very much a measuring stick contest for both teams.
Other contest will pit North Caddo, Minden, and BTW-Shreveport against teams listed. Tonight’s action, in Bossier, will also go a long way in helping these teams prepare for the team camp at the Northwestern State this coming weekend.
