Summer at Battle Ground High School: Key Players & Coach’s Corner
During the month of June, high school basketball ramps back up, with most schools visiting tournaments each weekend. In this article, we take a look at Battle Ground High School (WA) and what they have going this summer.
Key Players:
Kaden Perry, the 6’8 First-Team All-League player, returns for his sophomore year, looking to take the next step in his development. The young big man was dominant on both ends of the floor last season, and after being in the weight room and gym all spring, should continue to impress Division I schools from all over. Vincent McCormic also returns. The gritty 6’0 point guard shows great leadership, never taking his foot off of the gas pedal at either end of the court.
Summer Schedule:
After playing in the Titanic Clash at Union High School in early June, Battle Ground heads to three different team camps: University of Portland (June 15th-17th), Gonzaga University (June 21st-24th), and University of Oregon (June 29th-July 1st).
Thoughts from Head Coach Manny Melo:
“Battle Ground returns 4 starters, and two all-league players in Vincent McCormic and Kaden Perry, from last year’s playoff team. Battle Ground is still a young team overall, but looks to use some of their experiences from last year to make a further push into the playoffs next season. [I] really like how well this team has bonded together over the past nine months, playing in offseason tournaments together, lifting together, and always helping out one another. This is a tight knit group, hungry for success.”
