St. Charles Shootout: (Class of 2021 Standouts)
Here is a look at some of the top Class of 2021 players from last weekend’s St. Charles Shootout:
Sam Thompson 6’8″ Francis Howell: An impressive young big who was one of the top post players in the shootout. He has a very good set of fundamentals around the basket. He catches the ball, keeps it up and can go left or right to get buckets with either hand. He has a nice touch from out to 15 feet and he did an excellent job of passing out of double teams to open shooters. He has a bright future.
Myles Estrada 6’0″ Francis Howell Central: One of the top perimeter shooters that I watched in the event, this young man can fill it up from long distance; and in a hurry. He made seven 3-pointers in a victory over St. Charles on Saturday evening and it was impressive. A couple of them were well beyond the 3-point line. He plays with a lot of confidence and enjoyment.
Cachao Gianquinto 6’3″ Battle: A very smooth young offensive talent who can knock down 3-pointers with consistency. He does a nice job of moving without the ball and coming off screens to get his open jumpers. He has a solid drive game as well and I would like to see him use it more often to compliment his perimeter shooting. He had a very productive freshman year for a district championship team.
Brenden Deters 6’1″ Troy: A slick young point guard with good size and good ball handling ability. He’s good in space, but also good in tight quarters where he can get to the basket and make plays for himself and his teammates. He is a good facilitator, but he can also knock down jumpers and score when he needs to.
Demarcus Sanford 6’1″ Lift for Life: A talented young shooting guard who has the ability to score and do it with a little flair. He is a good jump shooter and knocked down several shots off the dribble while being contested. He is a solid ball handler who can also create positive plays for his teammates.
John Wilson 6’5″ St. Charles West: A beefy post player who is also a young up and coming lineman on the football field. He uses his bulk well when it comes to getting good position in the post. He is strong and holds his position well. He is also a good post defender who knows how to lean on his man and move him off his spot. He goes up strong and makes good use of pump fakes in traffic.
