Small College 2020 PGs
Who are some 2020 point guards that D3 and NAIA programs should start to monitor early in the process? Here are some good ones to track!
Carter Dawson (Pontiac)
Travel Team: No Travel Team
Dawson flies under the radar because he doesn’t play on the travel team circuit because of baseball, but we were really impressed with his playmaking ability at his size during the high school season.
Michael Osborne (Proviso East)
Travel Team: Made Men
This Proviso East point guard can really push the ball in transition. Consistently gets to the rim in transition and finds his teammates for good shots. Quality decision making in the half court. Plus mid-range jump shooter as he drills them for days.
Connor Dillon (Peoria Notre Dame)
Travel Team: Illinois Irish
Dillon is a 6’1” shooting guard from Peoria Notre Dame that jumped off the floor with his ability to shoot the rock. Drills threes off the catch from almost every spot on the floor. Mixes in a couple quick takes. Solid athlete that you can’t just close out and think he won’t put it on the deck.
Conor Glennon (Brother Rice)
Travel Team: Chicago Lockdown
Glennon is a guard that is super fiery and competitive. He is tough getting in the lane and likes to use a floater. Good drive and kick passer. Also a capable three point shooter off the catch. Very active defender that is pesky at the point of attack.
Joey Tianen (Niles Notre Dame)
Travel Team: Breakaway
This Niles Notre Dame lead guard that controls the game for Breakaway. The 2020 PG handles it well. Crisp passer that makes outstanding dishes in the lane. Tianen showed the ability to stretch the defense with his perimeter shot as well.
Luke Ervie (Freeburg)
Travel Team: Illinois Bears
The sophomore lead guard plays both on and off the ball for his high school team. When playing off the ball he does a nice job of moving without the rock to get open. Crisp and hard cuts trying to get room for his jumper. He is a plus shooter from three with a clean release. Tough and competitive kid that isn’t afraid to take it in the paint for scores through contact. Pushes in transition.
Grant Niego (Lyons)
Travel Team: Chicago Lockdown
This Lyons Township 6’1” point guard is a leader at the point guard position. Gets others involved with his passing particularly in the half court. Capable jump shooter.
Dakoda Joachim (Joliet Central)
Travel Team: Young & Reckless
He is a smaller left handed point guard that that knows how to run the show. Joachim does an outstanding job getting others involved and playing with pace. Works well in the pick and roll. Gets in the lane consistently. High IQ guard that can also score a little. Best using a pull up jumper from 15-18 feet.
Blake McKay (Woodlawn)
Travel Team: Illinois Bears
McKay is a point guard from Woodlawn that has broad shoulders and likes to get in the lane where he can find his teammates with his creative passing. Also is a solid shooter especially from mid-range.
