SEBA Summer League Playoffs: Tuesday Night Notes
The SEBA Summer League playoffs took place on Tuesday night at Tampa Prep.
Games were running from 6-9 PM on both courts and there were some solid matchups and good individual performances.
Here’s a look at the standouts.
Logan Morrissey (Plant)
Not back to 100 percent just yet, it was nice to see 2019 Plant guard Logan Morrissey playing basketball again. He had missed the last few months with an ankle injury and then a back issue. The 6’3″ guard was hitting outside shots, attacking often and scoring inside. The offense runs through Morrissey and when he is right, the Plant cast will be too.
Sager Cavalier (Alonso)
Every time I see Sager Cavalier play, I always come away pleased. The 2019 Alonso guard plays the right way and is always looking for the next thing, whether that is a rebound or steal and then a push in transition. The 6’3″ guard is a fine athlete who plays with energy and hard work.
Kobe Knox (Tampa Catholic)
Kobe Knox is a mature shooter who is working on his shot selection and ability to create for his offense. Playing alongside some speedy and versatile athletes, the 2020 guard knows his role and he was working well tonight. The 6’3″ Knox was burying 3’s left and right, especially from his favorite spot, the corner.
Darin Green Jr. (Wharton)
It was another fine night for 2019 Wharton guard Darin Green Jr. With a gifted jump shot, pure athleticism and a good physique, Green Jr. continues to put points on the board in bunches. The 6’5″ guard/forward is a facilitator when he isn’t scoring and he draws a lot of attention from opposing defenses.
Jaren Phillips (Tampa Prep)
The passing from 2019 Tampa Prep guard Jaren Phillips was impressive on Tuesday night. A guy who can turn it up any point with his ballhandling and slashing, the 6’6″ guard/forward was making it happen. Phillips thrives in big pressure situations and against the best competition.
Nicholas Butler (Freedom)
Undersized but tough, 2019 Freedom guard Nicholas Butler was routinely putting baskets in the rim off lay-ins. At 5’9″, Butler was driving to the hoop and getting away from defenders in transition often. Freedom played scrappy in both games tonight and Butler was a big part of the nice performances.
