Scruggs Set For Busy Summer
Wisconsin’s 2020 class quickly established itself as one loaded with Division 1 talent. While numerous schools chase some of the bigger fish, one of the hidden gems in this class will be Dominican point guard Abe Scruggs.
Fielding a mixture of high and mid-major interest going into the summer, Scurggs said four schools appear serious about potentially extending an offer.
Montana State: “They came to a couple of practices, open gyms, and also high school games. They contacted my AAU team and expressed strong interest.”
Northern Arizona: “They’re trying to set up a schedule to come see me play and that they would like to see film on me. Just need to get more tape on me, so they can see me before they come watch me play.”
Portland: “They want more video of me before they come see me play. They said they like me and that they really want to see me play. They invited me to their camp and I’ve received six or seven letters of interest from them in the last month.”
UW-Milwaukee: “They’re just saying that throughout the summer they are going to be watching a lot of my games and to just keep working hard.”
Scruggs will have a busy June, attending camps at Wisconsin, Portland, and UW-Green Bay.
As a sophomore, Scruggs posted 14.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game, while helping lead Dominican to a 19-6 overall record, including an 11-5 mark in a top heavy Metro Classic Conference.
Looking to make a splash and attract offers beginning in July, Scruggs hopes to land at a program with a strong track record of guards.
“I’m looking for a school that has a good reputation on and off the court with a coach that believes in me and will push me to be the best player I can be,” he said. “A program that has a history of strong guard play and I’d prefer to play for an up-tempo team, but I can play it all. Also a team that looks to lock down and defend.”
Scruggs plays for World Hoops Elite during the travel season.
