Recruiting Report: Tommy Chatman (2019)
In the next week the 2019 NHR prospect rankings will come out and in the top 20 you will find Park Center guard Tommy Chatman, a skilled smooth competitor who picked up an NSIC offer last night.
Tommy visited Northern State yesterday on an unofficial trip and he left Aberdeen with his first scholarship offer. Maybe the first of several as a number of schools are in contact with Chatman.
“School that have been in contact with me Northern State, Sioux Falls, St Cloud State, Winona State, South Dakota, DePaul, Augustana, Denver and a few others,” Tommy said. “I haven’t made it 100 percent on what camps I’m going too but I will be attending camps this summer. I had a visit to Northern state after school is out but no others are planned yet.”
Chatman was one of five double figure scorers for Park Center this year (Jarius Cook 16.2, DJ Purnell 13.6, Dain Dainja 13.1, Khari Broadway 11.8, Tommy Chatman 11.2) as he spent the year producing in both guard spots. The Pirates will start next year with high expectations as a top five team in Class AAAA.
“Right now we are returning everyone that played varsity last year expect the three seniors (Cook, Purnell, Lavante Parker) from last year,” Tommy said. “My biggest thing i want to improve on is leading my team as I am now one of the oldest on the team and that’s what I want to improve on the most.”
Chatman is playing with the TC Pirates 17u team who is 12-7 through four events this year.
“The top moments so far have been traveling around making new bonds with the new guys and the new team,” Tommy said. “My hopes for the team is to win high level games, get coaches out to watch and get everyone going to college after this season is over.”
So far the results of Tommy’s goals have started to get accomplished. Teammate Ray Mitchell was offered by Idaho yesterday, Chatman picked up the offer from Northern State, and DJ Purnell has had a lot of quality D1 juco programs asking around about his ability.
