Recruiting Report: Matthew Hurt (2019)
Five star Matthew Hurt is currently playing with the United State 18U team in Canada right now and while there he has spoke to several media outlets about what is next in his recruitment.
Hurt is playing for Kansas Head Coach Bill Self on this USA U18 team and with that Self was able to talk about Hurt after one of the recent games.
“Matt can really shoot,” Coach Self exlpained. “He’s known by some that hasn’t watched him play a lot as just a great shooter, but he’s athletic. He can play on the perimeter, we haven’t posted him but he’s good on the post.”
Kansas is one of several programs recruiting Hurt along with Minnesota, Indiana, UCLA, Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, and Memphis. When Hurt cuts his list down it’s expected to have several, most, or all of these teams.
“I’m going to cut my list after AAU season, so around August right now, around seven or eight (programs) I think,” Hurt said. “We start high school season in November, so I’m trying to get it done mostly by then.”
The key there could be “mostly” though as Hurt has spoken of maybe deciding in the spring. Either way, Hurt will have his time to make a choice because schools will wait for him.
Matthew was recently on with a Kentucky area radio host and said the following about the Wildcats, which is a team we haven’t heard Matthew say as much about, but he gave a good update here.
“They have a great culture. They really develop guys over a couple years or a year to get to the NBA. That means a lot because my ultimate goal is the NBA. I think Kentucky could be a really good fit for me. They produce. They get what you want. They tell you what’s real, not what you want to hear but they tell you what you need. I think that’s really real.”
Kentucky will have to get by Duke, UNC, Minnesota, Kansas and the others to get the services of Hurt.
